The family-owned company Anstar Oy is carrying out the largest investment in its history — about three million euros — by expanding its production facilities in Lahti. The upcoming factory expansion will significantly increase manufacturing capacity. The new facilities are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026.
“Trends in the construction industry are increasingly supporting industrial prefabrication. For example, demand for pre-cast composite beams is growing rapidly, as they save both time and costs on construction sites while meeting the requirements of modern building. At the same time, demand for connection parts is also on the rise,”says Managing Director Tero Viljakainen.
Growing demand drives the investment
Demand for connection parts and pre-cast composite beams has grown strongly across Europe, particularly in urban construction.
The framework construction environment is undergoing change, as a warming climate poses challenges for on-site concrete casting. The advantages of pre-cast composite beams are especially evident in moisture control and time management on construction sites. At the same time, construction is trending towards flexible solutions that improve cost efficiency and space utilization throughout a building’s entire lifecycle.
These changes in the operating environment, along with increasing demand, have encouraged Anstar to invest in composite beam production and facility expansion.
“The expansion gives us more capacity to serve both domestic and international customers. In addition, it will streamline our production processes so we can better respond to intensifying competition,” says Tero Viljakainen.
Investment creates jobs
The investment also carries broader societal significance, as production in Finland and control over supply chains are increasingly important for the security of supply in construction. The decision to invest in Lahti will create dozens of new jobs in Päijät-Häme region and strengthen local vitality.
Anstar Oy has experienced strong growth, with turnover quadrupling over the past ten years. With this growth, the current production facilities are gradually becoming insufficient. The expansion is being carried out proactively, and production will continue normally throughout the project without affecting deliveries.
“For a long time, the trend in industry has been outsourcing production or moving it to countries with cheaper labor. We want to believe that manufacturing products in Finland will remain possible in the future as well. With domestic investments, we strengthen our international competitiveness and ensure fast service in the domestic market,” Viljakainen continues.
